i18n Transformer, plain text and HTML entities

I want to use the i18nTransformer to process a plain text file  
containing UTF-8 encoded strings.
The result should also be plain text.

Some of the strings in the I18N catalogue contain the German umlauts  
(äöüÄÖÜ). Is there a
way to tell i18nTransformer not to convert these to HTML entities? At  
the
moment I get ä, Ü etc.
