It doesn't work for me, at least not as I can figure.

Has anyone actually done this?  I can get it to work in Ruby, so I know the
service works.  I need this to work in Cocoon though.

Not sure, but I think you can include the username and password in the 
service's URL, something like:

http://username:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/path/to/soap/service
