To be exact, XSP has never actually been deprecated, only its usage
has been discouraged. In my opinion we really should migrate this
block to 2.2 (What exactly does this mean, what's actually missing?)
to allow people migrating to 2.2 even if they are still using XSP.
I would agree with that. I know the syntax is a mess, but when it comes
to creating simple XML "web services" that get data from a database,
XSPs are the quickest and most efficient way of doing this. We have
about a dozen XSPs and the idea of migrating all that functionality to
not use XSPs would be a deal breaker for us (and in my view,
unnecessary). That is, we would have to stick with Cocoon 2.1.
