I tried again. I booted with LiveCD. Chose "6" for loader.
Typed "show" at the OK prompt.

It listed my variables like:
currdev=cd0:
loaddev=cd0:
But no rootdev.

I typed:
  set rootdev=disk0s4a
And then:
  set currdev=disk0s4a

And "show" showed them.

Then:
unload
boot

The kernel from hardisk appeared to load (no CD lights on).

Then after it showed acd0. it did:

Mounting root from cd9660:cd0c
cd0 at ata1 bus 0 target 0 lun 0
...

And my CD light was on and it booted the Live CD configuration.

Is this correct behaviour?

When I use "boot -s" and then exit the single user mode, it boots my 
ad0s4a like I expect.
