I don't have anything for your other questions, but I can say that I've been using a DragonFly machine to provide NAT for quite some time now, though with ipfw. www.shiningsilence.com, which gets a low but relatively constant amount of web and mail traffic, has been running release versions of DragonFly since February 2005; I've had no issues.
