This is what mined(1) is for.
A few thoughts:
When the system boots in single user mode the system coulddisplay a note
saying to use mined for editing. This will help users the first time they
have to run single user mode to do some maintenance work. Would also help if
it indicated CTRL-X is how to exit/save.
Another usability enhancement that could be done is to have a script called
"ee" which would just output a message indicating that mined is the
equivalent editor in DragonflyBSD.
