I was not aware that XML did make such a crusade against Control characters ;-) I found this very informative resource http://www.w3.org/International/questions/qa-controls#further I thought you can always encode control characters with Numeric References of the  kind, but even in XML 1.1 that is prohibited for � Well, as the text I have to transport is not mine, I will have to find other ways to do so. I'll either have to go the replacement route or I have to send those texts as MTOM attachments or encode in Base64.
