Thanks for the advice on this.  I had a lot of trouble downloading the WSDL
and building the client stubs from there also.  It had embedded imports. 
Eventually I used SoapUI to connect directly to the WSDL and exported it
locally from there and then built the stubs.  All that part seems to have
worked and I can get a WS call sent to the correct destination with a
seemingly correctly formed SOAP message.  However, as the WS is protected I
get challenged for a username/password.  This is a separate problem to the
original post so I will create another thread.  Thanks again.
