Since then we have upgraded but the version in question is CXF 2.2.12.
No response validation is supported in 2.2.12, it is probably something
else that is causing the issue

Response validation is enabled only if 'validateOutput' is also set. What
happens if the validation is disabled, do you see the same difference in
processing smaller and larger responses ?
