Hi Folks, Looking to the future ...
Today, in 2024, we have data formats like XML, JSON, CSV, JPEG, GIF. We have text data formats and binary data formats. Data formats employ separator symbols, initiator symbols, and terminator symbols. Data formats have fixed length fields and variable length fields. There are fields whose length is specified in another field. There are strings. There are strings of digits used to denote numbers. And so on. 100 years from now, will there be data formats that, if we could look at them today, we would gasp is awe, "Wow! What an incredible, beautiful data format. What a magnificent structure. In 2024 we could never have conceived of such a thing." Or will the data formats of the future be using the same types of things we are using today - separators, terminators, initiators, fixed length fields, variable length fields, etc.? Is the science of data formats changing, evolving, growing, improving? /Roger
