It works OK with later version 1.9.74 but I don't understand why I have to use a password. I don't use a password in Thunderbird.
You shouldn't have to. If your LDAP server requires authentication, you *can*, but you should not be forced to use one. Hmm.
Let me do a fresh install (probably 1.9.75) this evening and try again. I'll report my findings.
