Maybe logging at the db-server tells you some more about the problem? You can see in it what SQL OOo internally sends to mysql and how it eventually gets mangled. The problem you have occurs from time to time but I never heard an explanation of the cause from anoyone who was hit by it. And I think you should try another ODBC driver as Juraj suggested.
