MyODBC does not suport UNICODE, or UTF-8, this is big problem for us outside english language area.
ODBC is easier to use for Windows users, which are usualy much more familiar with this driver than JDBC. I use now JDBC, an see no diference with MyODBC with speed. -----Original Message----- From: steve [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, July 01, 2005 4:49 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [dba-users] jdbc Hi I'm running a school lan of 20 boxes. There seems to be an issue about ODBC on this list of which I know nothing. We have always used the MySQL driver from the MySQL site with not a single problem on ooo 1.9.x on test machines and utterly stable with 1.1.4 My question is why do others not use that connector? Is it slower to connect? Speed on a lan with PII 450 clients is a big factor for those of us on a tight budget. I'd like advice as to whether to spend time investigating ODBC or perhaps persuading our director to invest in something that could e.g. mount /opt via nfs on the clients without bringing the whole show to a stanstill.
