With MySQL and OOo is this no problem. I use unicode for my Slovak files.

MySQL has no problems with big files. I work with 1 to 7 MB big files
with 25 000 records.
I think embedded OOo database is not for you. It cannot be used by two
or more people at the same time. But if you have no problem to use MySQL
server, you can do everything you want.
I work with MySQL server at work in our LAN where we use the same
database on two computers. There is no problem to make in seconds copy
of my database and bring it home to work with it.
