Hi,
Continuing my tries to connect databases to OO I encounter multiple
problems but one of the mot frustrating ones is the discrepancy between
the helpfiles and the actuality. The discrepancies are too numerous to
present. A simple example will suffice:
To add an address book to OO manually the helpfile say:
"Choose File - Templates - Address Book Source. The Templates: Address
Book Assignment dialog appears."
OK, that works. No I want to use my evolution addressbook (instead of
the registered database EvolutionLocal) or my Mysql database
"adresboek".
Following the instructions "If you have not yet registered the system
address book in OpenOffice.org as the data source, click the
Administrate button." etc. I come into the "Address Book Data Source
Wizard" which should give m a choice between "Mozilla" "LDAP" or "other
external data source". However, only the latter is shown. So I select
"other etc." and get a new window with one button "settings".
The next window gives me a dropdown menu with database to choose from
but no evolution is shown (contrary to a very old version, I thought
1.4). So Evolution is not possible (?). I choose "Mysql (ODBC)" and the
next window gives me a a blank dropdown line where the "browse" button
gives me a blank field as it only shows registered databases!
I give up!
I understand that it should be rather simple (computer illiterates
should be able to perform this successfully if it must replace the MS
counterpart) but either the manual is much too terse or I'm missing
something (e.g. a driver? understanding?).
My setup: OO 2.0.2, kernel: 2.6.17-1.2139_FC5 sufficient memory, etc.
Evolution 2.6.2 Mysql 5.1, mysql-connector-odbc-3.53.12-1.2.1
Sorry for this long somewhat gloomy text but I like OO very much and use
it daily so hopefully someone can point me the way.
Joep
