Not entirely but almost. Additionally I had to replace the Java provided
by Ubuntu (Ubuntu Kernel 2.6.17-10-386#2 i686 GNU/Linux) with Java 5.0
of Sun, Inc. This I did last night. Now it works!

By the way, another laptop computer of mine with Debian GNU/Linux 4.0

i686) and all updates shows exactly the same symptoms. I am going to
replace its Java with Sun's Java. Im looking forward to having another
well-behaved OpenOffice.org Base then. If this does not come true I will
report here.
