Hmm, to me this sounds like a graphics/driver problem then. Assuming that your WinXP has the WinXP (instead of the classic) theming, you might want to check switching this off, and see if this solves the problem. This wouldn't be a solution, of course, but provide an idea ... Also, you might want to send crash reports upon the next OOo start, and tell the report ID (you'll get a mail with this ID, if you gave the crash reporter your email address) here. Perhaps it's possible to see more from the report. Other than this, I don't have an idea ATM, sorry. What you do sounds pretty straight-forward, and there are no such problems know, AFAIK.
