The most you get for the first version, I fear ...

The solution you describe sounds tempting, but needs an overwhaul of the
complete parameter API/UI, which is not easily done. In fact I think
getting this specified and implemented is more time we can invest on the
medium run ...

Which is very valid request for the report designer, IMO. Mid submitting
an issue? If you add a comment that competitive applications can do
this, plus a good scenario where it is needed (your original mail
contained one, IMO), then this raises the chances :)
