Hello Lynn,
this isn't a problem of OpenOffice.org (nor OOo Base), it's a problem of
the distros, that modify OOo.
If you want your OOo to work and to be able to submit issues to OOo, you
ALWAYS have to use the build made by OpenOffice.org, downloaded at
www.openoffice.org. not at your distro's repository because this version
can be modify by your distros engineers.
The same is valid for Java, use always Sun's Java version.
OOo original's version + Java Sun version will always work, and if not
and you find an issue, you can submit it (as the developers can not make
themselves responsables for other people's mistakes == distro's
engineers, the issues can be submitted only to OOo original builds).
