What additional information can I supply that would be helpful?
Problem solved by an upgrade of the ODBC driver. Apparently the MySQL
folks were careful to keep the bugs consistent across multiple
versions of the driver and multiple operating systems, which threw me
off the scent at first. See the thread in dba-dev, where I got the
definitive clues from Alex.
Thanks to all for your assistance!
The other factor which threw me off was the fact that (as I noted
earlier) I have no problems using the older ODBC driver to perform data
manipulation queries of any kind. If I were in the shoes of the OOo
Base team, I'd be inclined to find out why OOo can't perform insertion
queries with the ODBC driver for the most widely used open source DBMS
which ships with the current release version of one of the most popular
Linux distributions (Ubuntu 7.10) and either see if the OOo software
could be adjusted so that it didn't fail where I'm succeeding, or (if
that's not possible), publicly document the limitation and the reasons
for it. I'm happy to assist in whatever way I can with tracking down
the cause of the failure. If you're really not interested, just say so
and I won't pester you any further. :-)
