Just to get the ball rolling.
Also, when I built my report, using SRB, I placed the fields where I
want them to be however I would like borders around the text fields. Is
this possible. In the design view they have borders to display the
object but when the report is run those disappear. Does a setting exist
for this, to turn on and off as needed, Or will I need to insert the
fields within a table?
There is no setting for adding borders around individual fields. ( I
don't know if there is any plans to add this. Maybe this will come when
styles are supported.)
Interestingly ( to me anyway ) there has recently been a discussion in
the User Experience group regarding borders as they relate to tabular
data. One of the members there makes the point that the use of borders
around cells often makes presentation less clear instead of more.
Although I do not agree with all his points I do agree on this, when
talking about creating presentation forms ( A report falling in this
category ). The use of alternating backgrounds is much better. BUT -
that doesn't mean that the judicial use of borders is not important.
Even so, this is really a stylistic issue and should be up to the user.
So - how can you achieve it with the SRB? Well if you really wanted to
place a boarder around each and ever edge of each and every field it
would be a real bear.
At first blush you might think that the only tools you have at hand are
the vertical and horizontal line controls. True you could do that. There
is another way for individual fields, using a shape control and the
ability to adjust the layers of controls. In other words create a
rectangular shape that is slightly larger in width and height from the
field control. Place the field control on top of the shape control and
set the background to white instead of transparent. Viola a border.
Of course using the line controls you can also create your grid if you
want.
hmmm- what is the old saying a picture is worth a thousand words.
See you soon,
