>My webhost advises against creating a remotely connectable database.

Hi everyone.

Thanks for all the input. I can't risk the data being compromised as it is of
a personal nature. A reporting system with personal details, addresses and
idetification information.

I suppose that the simple answer is to host the mysql database and php scripts
on my own server. I can then connect to it internally using mysql jdbc. We're
a small International School running a website under e107 so we've got all we
need. The other alternative is expect everone to work to a deadline and have
their input ready and then dump the db and download it via ftp. Teachers?
Working to a deadline?! And then there's the ftp download of the database
dump security to talk about.

If I can offer help for the list: It only connected with 2.4.1 Linux and
mysql-connector 5.1.6 and the jre that came with updated openSUSE 10.3.

opensuse 11.0 report soon if anyone is interested.

Cheers, Steve.
