Hi Alex,
thanks for bringing this issue back to our attention :)

Hi Rainer,
maybe its a JDBC-driver issue? Jumping from first to last in Calc
takes as long (and also blocks the entire office-suite during
execution). pgAmin III doesn't (seem to) use the driver.
Took me a while to go through my old messages, and perhaps you've
already found the answer, but :
From memory, I seem to recall that it is a cursor related ResultSet
issue, where the ResultSet has to be reindexed on the fly, and the OOo
cursor has to travel through each item of each row of data :-((, which
with 22K rows makes for one very large array to index in memory (and I
know nothing about memory management in OOo). An example of similar
behaviour can be found in the "binocular" icon function of the GUI
that
lets you search for strings. Asbsolutely useless on anything larger
than
a few hundred records (unless that functionality has been improved
recently, I haven't checked). However, there may be other reasons,
e.g.
driver performance, that also influence this behaviour to a certain
degree. Try doing a mailmerge from within Writer with a JDBC driver
to a
remote database on just 300 records and OOo 2.4.x and you can go on
holiday for 6 months...I'll have to test this again in 3.0.x to see if
things have got better :-o otherwise I'll get shot down in flames :-))
