Howdy, Just thought I'd pass along my early experiences.
1) DO NOT try to swap out the hslqdb.jar file that comes with OO.o with the HSQLdb.org supplied jar for 1.9...doesn't work - actually I would of fallen off my seat if it did work.
2) Using JDBC to connect to a running instance of an HSQLdb 1.9 server does work - with a few caveats: - You need to add the class path to the HSQLdb.org supplied jar to the OO.o java configuration. - Once you do this you will be unable to work with Base files that include an embedded HSQLdb 1.8 data store. At least that was my experience, but I did not spend much time trying to find a work around. (Also - I believe that there are plans to have Java configuration setting on a per datasource basis in the future. I would expect this would address this problem...that an given the pace that the HSQLdb folks are moving towards a release of 1.9 (and 2.0) I doubt this will be a big problem any time soon)
