this afternoon gave rise to some surfing, not only on the web but within
the 'Add/programs' application under Ubuntu 9 and came across AnyMeal.
Looking at the FAQ

Doesn't XML slow down your program?
Sure. However it increases the development speed considerably. A
user will tolerate an application, which is a bit slower. It is
less likely, that a user will be happy to wait for a feature a
