We're waiting for the MySQL team at the moment for a solution for this problem, since it is in Connector/C, a core component used by the driver. (For instance, on my machine, I cannot connect to an "outer" server using Connector/ODBC, too. C/ODBC also uses C/C, thus it suffers from the same problem. On the other hand, the original reporter of this bug told that C/ODBC works fine for him. Quite strange, and still waiting for evaluation ...)
