Naja, fast alles versucht... Warum nicht in die Hilfe schauen, denn das Gute liegt so nah.
Hier habe ich den entsprechenden Hinweis aus der mir im Moment nur auf Englisch vorliegenden Hilfe kopiert:
An image that you have loaded with *Format - Page - Background* is only visible in print or in the page preview. To display a background image on screen as well, insert the graphic image by choosing *Insert - Picture - From File* and arrange the image behind the cells by choosing *Format - Arrange - To Background*. Use the Navigator <vnd.sun.star.help://scalc/text/scalc/01/02110000.xhp?Language=en-US&System=WIN&UseDB=no&DbPAR=scalc> to select the background image.
