Hi,

I tried both 4.0.3 and most recent snapshot (17 feb), but,
unfortunately, cannot get to a desktop, after
starting X I only see black-ish screen. Even
not possible to kill X session with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.
The CPU is Intel Core i5 2520M (laptop).

Any suggestion?

Thanks,
Hi,

This sandy bridge CPU has an Intel HD3000 graphics processor, which is
actually the same that I have in my laptop (Intel Core i7 2620M).

It shall be well supported both in 4.0.3 and master so you might have missed a
step or something. Is xf86-video-intel29 installed (it's a more recent version
than xf86-video-intel) ? What is the content of your ~/.xinitrc? Are you sure
there is no mistake there?
I suppose this is what I am missing - xf86-video-intel29. Didn't know it exists,
will try and report back,

Personally, I don't even have a xorg.conf file since it is not required. It
shall really work out of the box.

Cheers,
Robin
Thanks,
Nope, that wasn't the case, I had xf86-video-intel version 29 already installed.
I have neither xorg.conf nor ~/.xinitrc files.

Install xfce (pkg install xfce), then run startxfce4. Then you don't need to edit your xinitrc files :)

  Michael
