Try redirecting stdout and stderr to a file.   notty -12 blahblahblabhalh
>& /tmp/logfile

That's with csh or tcsh . With sh it would be notty -12 blsahblahblbha  >
/tmp/logfile 2>&1

And then see what error you are getting.
