Normally we try to avoid upgrading a port to a higher version than the
one in FreeBSD because it's more work for us there is a risk that we
forget about it and it's left in that version (we use something called
newport which overrides whatever comes from freebsd ports). However if
there is a good reason we might do it :-)
If you would like to go with the best approach, you can send a PR to
FreeBSD bugzilla (https://bugs.freebsd.org/) and once it's there, it
will trickle down to dports in time.
