Hi Felixens
I'm exploring the current 1.0.1 implementation. As far as I can tell the Felix
download contains only the very basic core libraries. And the rest of the
bundles that contain the OSGi standard services are installed with orb.
This is not entirely accurate. At this point, only the core with a small
set of services have been officially released, thus only the stuff on
the official download page are actually "officially" available.
Now if I call "obr list-url" I'll get the repository:
http://oscar-osgi.sf.net/obr2/repository.xml [1]
If I call "obr list", I'll get the followling list:
Apache Felix Bundle Repository (0.8.0.incubator)
Apache Felix Shell Service (0.8.0.incubator)
Apache Felix Shell TUI (0.8.0.incubator)
telnetd (1.0.0)"
Oddly these bundles are all Version 0.8.0. Now if I look under
http://oscar-osgi.sourceforge.net/obr2/ I get many more bundles. But they
didn't seem to have changed lately.
So here are my two questions:
- Where do I get a complete Felix 1.0.1 with all the standard services
installed?
You will need to build from SVN if you want other services, since they
have not been released.
- Since the versions of the bundles haven't changed, are there any changes
concerning standard services between 0.8.0 and 1.0.1? And is there a list of
all changes/improvements?
Artifacts are version independently. The fact that framework is at 1.0.1
does not impact the version numbers of the individual services. When
some official services get released, they will get assigned whatever
version number is appropriate for them (i.e., depending on their level
of completeness and stability).
After we get official releases for various services, we have discussed
making official "service platform" releases that would contain a
versioned set of service releases, but we haven't gotten there yet.
[1] I would change the location of repository. Oscar seems a bit odd.
Well, oscar-osgi.sf.net is merely the site for OBR and has been for a
few years. Oscar hasn't been on that site for a long time. That URL is
currently used because we didn't have an official OBR for Felix set up
yet, so I just used that space for demonstration purposes. However, you
are right that we should do something better, perhaps after we start
releasing services.
