Thanks for all the feedback. To clarify a little bit, the build system I'm describing is almost as old as I am. It builds an extremely large family of software products, in which Java is but one small part of the whole picture. So while I'd love to say, hey, let's cut over to Maven, it's just not going to happen -- or it might, but it would be over the course of a few years and a very thorough requirements analysis. What I want to accomplish, though, is at least the modularization of the part of the codebase that I can have some control over, and OSGi/Felix seems like a good route towards doing so. Again, I appreciate the feedback and will investigate the techniques described, unless the general consensus of the group is that the jar-to-bundle mapping is too central to use OSGi/Felix otherwise.
