There seems to be a ongoing effort to make Java available directly at the hardware level, see <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_processor>. IMO, software still is far more easier to update than hardware, making it, for example, for more easy to update a stock JRE running on a Rasberry PI (or any other ARM-based board) than it would be to update a custom synthesized JVM on a FPGA. > addendum: The background to this idea is that the package > resolution can be very well parallelized by an FPGA. Though FPGAs can hugely improve certain tasks, I do wonder whether the effort of creating a ASIC for this purpose outweighs the number of times packages are resolved at runtime. Given your post history, package resolution times is something that keeps you away, isn't it? :) - -- Met vriendelijke groeten | Kind regards Jan Willem Janssen | Software Architect +31 631 765 814 /My world is revolving around PulseOn and Amdatu/ Luminis Technologies B.V.
