You need to wait for the popup to actually close before doing your 10sec processing. Add a listener to popup close event (or whatever equivalent event), and do your processing in that handler.
However, whatever place you put your processing, your application will seem "frozen" during that period. The only solution to make it seem active is to use workers, like Alex suggested.
