Alex, I don't think that the status code is the cause of the generation of the IOErrorEvent, since on both scenarios -Flash simulator and Android device- the same status code is perceived, but only on the simulator that event (IOErrorEvent) is dispatched.
I'll have to submit a bug on the AIR runtime then. Thanks for the help.
