try setting type of _buttonScale to Number, or remove the private var completely and access directly:

... scaleX="{hostComponent.scaleX}" ...

Subject: Re: dynamic skin scale

you should be able to read the scale with hostComponent.scaleX

Hi
    i have a skin, that i need to scaleX, the skin needs to read the scale from
the button definition

      <s:Button left="1"  right="1" top="-29" height="30"  click="blockBack(event)"
skinClass="com.peach.uofs.lesson.DynamicBlockNavBack"/>

i have used this approach before backgroundColor.down="{getStyle('color')}"
but scaleX seems not to be a Style
