Le 1er Mai 2006 : La International Standard Organization a approuvé
aujourd'hui le standard de format de fichier qui doit être utilisé
mondialement pour l'enregistrement des fichiers produits par les
logiciels de bureautique. Pour la première fois dans l'histoire
informatique, les utilisateurs auront la garantie qu'il pourront
utiliser leurs données sur n'importe quel logiciel compatible, dès
maintenant et dans le futur. L'atout d'un standard ouvert c'est que
n'importe quelle application compatible peut l'utiliser.
Comme Simon Phipps, Chief Open Source Officer at Sun Microsystems, l'a
observé :
"
"This is a landmark moment for the Free/Open Source Software movement.
An innovation that started here [at OpenOffice.org] has been reviewed,
adopted and now endorsed at the highest level as an international
standard. We now have a standard for productivity documents that is
recognised by governments, which often require ISO approval."
La suite bureautique OpenOffice.org supporte intégralement la nouvelle
norme ISO/IEC 26300 (et supporte depuis la version 2.0 le standard
OpenDocument Format sur lequel elle est basée). Le projet a conduit le
monde vers un nouveau chemin.
Louis Suarez-Potts, the OpenOffice.org Community Manager writes,
"The approval by the ISO helps level the playing field and helps clarify
what is at stake: your intellectual property, your right to use
innovative software. The open standard means not only that your property
is not held hostage to the company making the application but also that
new applications, new extensions, new ways of doing things can be
created. The user wins."
