References to jquery and proj4js can be deleted (not active in the fragment but used in the real one - just not deleted).

GroupTab and GroupTabPanel are more interesting. What they do in ensure that mapPanel is created etc but not immediately rendered. This seemed to be part of the problem.

Tom Baginski - did you also initially hide mapPanel or are you reproducing the problem without a it?
Your insight would be valuable here. Meanwhile I am seeing if there is another way to show problem.
