After more debugging, I've determined the SelectFeature is active. The cause of my issue seems to be caused by having eventListeners for activate/deactivate defined in my the 2 GeoExt.Action objects(one for zoom in, one for zoom out). My first guess is the eventListeners are interfering with the click handler.
