[Users] featurestore limit?

I'm new to Geoext and am having problems loading a layer with several hundred 
features into a featurestore using a grid for display.  After about 200-300 
features it no longer loads.  Not seeing any errors in firebug, just seems to 
timeout and not finish.  Is there a limit to how many features can be loaded?
