About the extra info in the legend image, that's controlled by the WMS service.

About the transparency : I proposed an alternate solution to your issue. Other than that, I don't really know how you could solve your problem.

Could you please provide a small live demo ?

Also, perhaps the use of some kind of layer opacity slider could be also

a good workaround [1].
