Lost spellchecking here got it back by:
It is not Tools>Options>language settings> languages' it is
'Tools>Options>Language Settings>Writing Aids>User-defined dictionaries
I had an entry 'standard [All]' I changed it to 'standard [English{USA}]' and
spellchecking started working again.
