I think there is probably a problem with LO3.3 as the backed up version
of my spreadsheet works perfectly well in both Oo3.2 and Excel. It is
only when I try to open it in Lo3.3 that I have a problem.
Also when I try to reference a cell from a different file even though I
have both files open and point from one to the other it still gives me
the #REF error.

I have been using Libre Office 3.3 having up dated from Ooo 3.2. I now
find that when trying to reference from one spreadsheet to another
sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, coming up with a #REF
failure. It also fails to show the graphs from an Excel sheet that
worked perfectly in Open Office 3.2.
I uninstalled 3.2 before installing 3.3, but have had to go back to
Oo3.2 to get my spreadsheets working again.
I doubt that the #REF! error has anything to do with the software
version. As far as I can see, this error works properly in
LibreOffice. #REF! has to do with relative references and how these
references resolve when you copy relative references. When they refer
to some sheet/row/column out of scope you get either one of
=#REF!.A1 (no such sheet)
Sheet1.#REF!1 (no such row)
Sheet1.A#REF! (no such column)
Without any information at all it is impossible to help without
posting a spreadsheet tutorial.
