Than go back one step. What OS, LO and Java are you using. Sometimes
these things can be version specific or because you are using a
different version of java.

On Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Java JRE Sun Microsystems 1.6.0_20 (although I tested 1.6.0_24 and it
worked the same).
Are you using the OpenJDK libraries? this is what LO defaults to I
think. I changed because I was finding some unusual problems poped up
after moving from OO, which went away when moving back to the
SunMicrosystems Java Version.
