Right... However even to do that you need to understand where the
*actual* program is.... right?

Provided you that info. You can eliminate the menu item if you wish, but
the process of creating a desktop launcher is pretty much the same.
Note: you don't just use "an icon on the desktop"; you can create a
program launcher and add an icon if you wish, but LO won't just create
an program launcher with icon all by itself as in Windows.
