Hi :)
No, you don't need quick-starter running.  Some people think they want it but 
it's not vital.  LibreOffice still starts up just about as quickly even if it's 
not always running in the background like that.  You can switch it off from 
inside LibreOffice
Tools - Options - LibreOffice - Memory - "Enable Systray Quickstarter"
Just untick it ;)
