Yes, sadly  Base seems to need a lot of work but it's too much of a challenge 
for devs right now.  When it works it's great and it has a lot of great 
potential.

You might want to post a bug-report directly with LibreOffice bug-reporting 
system rather than just downstream at Ubuntu

Ok, I found a bug (launchpad bug#709778) related to this that seems to
be still unresolved.

This really makes Base useless to me at the moment!
