Hi :) +1 I lose track of which is the latest version of most distros. I think Fedora is quite a tough one for a first time into the world of Gnu&Linux but it is definitely worth spending time getting to know well. I'm not sure what i would recommend right now tbh. Ubuntu gets articles out there into the mainstream press but i am wary about the all-new interfaces, Gnome3 and Unity. So, perhaps Mint, Mageia (15th in the DW charts already and still rising fast) or yes, Fedora lol.
http://distrowatch.com/ Pardus has excellent reports but it's fairly specific to Turkish. It was about the first to use LibreOffice by default (along with Mageia). Mepis and others are well worth a try as LiveCds or on a new separate partition just to test them out while you stick with your main one on your main partition(s). The "Live Upgrade" does it "on the fly", and worked perfectly for me at least. I think you'll find that LibreOffice isn't in the Fedora14 repositories, which will be where your package maanger is looking, but it is in the F15 ones. I'm relatively new to Linux too and tried to install LO by downloading the file from the LO website and installing that, I have some problems now because of it (perhaps), so I'd recommend the F15 -> LO route.
