PARTS of Base require Java, ie to link to a new external database or set up new Queries. But it is not required with those databases once they have been configured.
I was prompted to enable Java last week when I added a new external DBF database and queries. I have now disabled it (makes loading of LO faster) and can still access that database. When I upgraded from 3.4.1 to 3.4.2 the other week I got an alert to enable Java during the installation process. Not sure what triggered it, and I have never had this before when upgrading either OO or LO.
