No, I think you did it right as I get page count = 5 also. LO just can't count. I think what is required are some more statistics fields. Page Count is total pages, 4 was correct, 5 is definately wrong and so is 4 as there are only 3 pages. Thats a bug somewhere.
No, Writer starts pages with a new page style as right page, odd numbered. And inserts the even as hidden. Can be shown though, and turned of with printing too.
There needs also to be a "Pages since last count restart" or similar.
